Welcome to SSW3, our third SCOTTISH SOULFUL WEEKENDER and biggest event so far!
The last two year's events were massive successes and were hailed as "the friendliest weekender ever" by all of the patrons that attended this incredible 3 day and 3 night event set in an incredible venue. Widely regarded as the "next big weekender" SSW is without doubt one of the fastest growing weekender events in the U.K.
Already attending this huge event are black music lovers from as far afield as Miami, South America, Germany, New York, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Belgium and the four corners of the U.K.. SSW has gone global!
The promoter Yogi Haughton is one of the U.K's best known black music DJs with a list as long as your arm when it comes to where he has played and the who's who of talent that he has worked with over the years. A veteran DJ of many of the U.K.s top weekenders, Yogi has brought all this experience & his vast musical knowledge to the table to promote what was for many, last year's premier black music event.
With our huge superior sound systems transported from London, friendly door & hotel staff and fantastic facilities at our venue The Cairndale Hotel, which is situated in the heart of the picturesque town of Dumfries and is ideally nestled on the English/Scottish border, you can enjoy easy transport routes into the town no matter how you choose to travel from anywhere in the U.K. There is plenty of free parking and the town is serviced by two train stations, (please see travel page). The Cairndale is a perfect venue for a weekender event of this stature as last year's event testifies. Now it's time to do it all again.....Welcome to SSW3
Don't be misled by the name The Scottish Soulful Weekender, yes we play a lot of soul music in some of the rooms but we also cater for soulful and jackin' house music lovers in the Pressure Point and nu disko, techy vibes and edits in the Blue Room with everything else in between.
Musically SSW is a shrine for people that enjoy their music on the "real" house side and their soulful, boogie, disco and jazzy music cherry picked from the rarer side of things.
Our massive house room, THE PRESSURE POINT caters for the mo' jackin' and deeper side of house with great vocal sounds thrown in for good measure & it's where our larger live acts perform on our gigantic 30k sound system.
The THE BLUE ROOM caters for disco edits, nu disko, future boogie, techy tracks, acid & classic vocal house from the early days of the garage scene. It's where the next big musical genre could be born before you very ears.
Then we have the legendary SHRINE ROOM where things can bounce from Mecca sounds to northern/R&B, from rare disco to Boogaloo and funk, from dance floor jazz to crossover or modern soul in an instant. We promise you, you will not hear soul music played on a better sound system at any other gig in Scotland!
Those of you who simply collect but like spinnin' the odd tune, or are a young DJ eager to show off your skills, are welcome to apply for our innovative GOLDMINE ROOM (See bottom of line up page for full details)
If you want to take a quick break outside of the main venue THE BEAT THE STREET SESSIONS are a free party 200 yards along the road from the main venue and runs while the weekender is taking a breather to sound check live acts and restock the bars. This year Richard Francis, Barry May & local lads 'The Social' DJ's will be hosting sessions upstairs at Broon's Bar. Also expect a few surprise guests. (See bottom of Line Up page for full details).

It's been quite a while since I've been to such an intimate and friendly weekender. The energy was really positive, the crowd well up for it, the rooms and sound systems were perfect and the lineup had some of my favorite DJs... What more can you ask for?
The venue... Outstanding, intimate soul, jazz-funk, boogie, RnB & house rooms dotted around a beautiful old hotel. The vibe... Amazing. everyone rocking till the break of dawn and the reception we received from the SSW crowd in the main arena was phenomenal. This crowd know how to dance and certainly know how to party, what an experience.
The Scottish Soulful Weekender is something of a gathering of the tribes - black music enthusiasts from both sides of the border coming together to enjoy both classic and contemporary tunes. Yogi's puts together some wonderful DJ line-ups and the event is destined to go from strength to strength as more and more people become aware of it.
I see the start of something musically beautiful, a new birth for a new energy of black music lovers, young and old. I'm very proud to have been part of such a musical family and we need more of this unity with our music & spirit to truly feel complete, this was music that speaks to your soul.
Fantastic weekender ....music , vibe & atmosphere was second to none.. quality vibes all round.. topped off with some heavy sound systems ! It's a must!
As avid house, soul and disco lovers we have traveled to many of the weekenders all over Europe, SSW surpassed all the other weekenders we have attended. The music was so diverse and played on the crazy sound systems and what a crowd. So many new friends made also.
A wonderful family atmosphere and everybody was there for the right reasons.
SSW was amazing with great live acts, fantastic djs and full of so many happy people. I'm looking forward to more of the same and meeting loads of new friends because this one promises to be off the hook.
SSW from a musical point of view was pure "Heaven". Outstanding DJs from all genres showcasing their talent, Classic Crossover to Nu Disco to Soulful House. Great live perfomances from Darryl D'Bonneau, Cassio Ware, Kim Weston & finishing off with Gwen Mcrae, something for everyone I would say!
